Assuming the parts weren’t swapped, this revolver was made in the late 1950s or early 1960s. It couldn’t possibly have been made prior to that, but it’s possible that it was made in the 1970s and had parts swapped.

As far as the date goes , I am just saying what S&W told me when I called them and gave them the serial number.

I am absolutely certain that it was not made prior to the 1950s.

Have S&W letter it, and if they confirm it was made in 1912 I’ll give you $800 and you can keep the gun.

The frame appears to be aluminum, if so, that'd make it a 43. Flat latch makes it pre 1966. So it was made somewhere from 1954-1966. And apparently quite rare.

I am not trying to deceive anyone here.
I am just going by what S&W said when I called them.
It has a five digit serial number with no letter before or after.
It has no model number inside the crane. Just a five digit part number.
I will call them again tomorrow and ask again.

Actually I was going to send for a letter until I saw it cost $100.
Ruger only charges $10.

Model numbers were generally, but not always, stamped on guns made after 1957. Production started in 1954 with serial number 5000.

Well I called S&W this morning and they were no help.
They told me to contact the historical foundation.
The last time I called them they told me something different.
The historical foundation won't do anything unless you pay them.
So I really don't know now.
It does look like the picture in the link CKAZ posted.
Looking at other pictures on the net it does look like a model 34.
Anyway I am just going to say it is a S&W revolver and let it go at that.

Also it does have an aluminum frame as CKAZ said.
