Question: Would there be an interest in SVDs?

Hi guys,

Local FFL dealer Huligan Arms here. Got a question to pose to the audience of AZGunBuy:

I have a line with the Hungarian SVDs (HD-18s), and I can get them once they're stateside. I figured I'd see if anyone here would want them. Especially since Tigrs and NDM's are pricey, then true Russian SVD's are pushing 20k+.

If there is interest, or questions about the rifle, or anything at all, just comment.

SVD's have tended to be 'minute of pie plate' when tested for accuracy, thus a novelty more than an actual precision accuracy rifle. For the money I've seen being asked for them, I'd get a decent bolt-action rifle from Remington, Winchester, Savage, Ruger, etc;.

A lot of the accuracy of an SVD is dependent on the ammunition used, along with the twist rate. Standard 7.62x54r is not the same as 7N1, which is the "sniper ammunition." Accuracy on these is highly dependent on what is used and the shooter of course. There are reports of the SVD hitting 800-1000 yards as well.

Also, twist rate does matter. An example is the NDM-86 has a twist that should align more so with the designer (Draganov's) goal, for better accuracy. Soviet heads of defense basically wanted a lower twist (reducing accuracy with the 7N1), to work better with other 7.62x54R rounds, such as explosive variants. The original SVD has the twist to use unique 7.62x54R effectively, whereas the NDM-86 is more akin to just general ammo.

On the HD-18, you're getting the original SVD in barrel and twist, with some small things different such as the flash hider (due to import restrictions). Thats the benefit on this. Plus, if you can get good with an SVD/Dragunov. If we're comparing the Izhmash Tigrs, their barrel lengths are wrong, so that might be dependent on the accuracy in the states too.

If any questions let me know. Happy to answer. I will say, a lot of people compare the SVD to the PSL. Both have different systems. There is a lot of confusion online about it from what I've seen the past few years lol.
